Quince Ensemble’s second annual contemporary and experimental voice workshop will take place September 19-22, 2024 at Experimental Sound Studio in Chicago, IL. This program invites singers and creative voice-users to delve into their craft in a supportive and inspiring environment.
Miller Theatre Portrait: Courtney Bryan
A 2023 MacArthur Fellow, Courtney Bryan is a brilliant pianist and groundbreaking composer who received her doctorate in composition at Columbia University in 2014. Her music is layered with musical genres including jazz, gospel, and experimental music. Two stellar groups—International Contemporary Ensemble and Quince Ensemble—join together to perform a program of recent works, including Requiem, a powerful five-movement work bridging end-of-life rituals from a spectrum of traditions.

The Klingler ElectroAcoustic Residency provides opportunities for composers to explore, experiment, and create for two weeks in Bowling Green State University's 10.2 multi-channel/first order Ambisonic studio. More recently the residency has welcomed new music new music performance ensembles , who present a concert and seminars in the fall and then return in the spring to read and record student works.

Quince Institute for Contemporary Vocal Chamber Music
Our first annual summer intensive for contemporary vocal chamber music will be held at the University of Washington in Seattle. Intended for vocalists who are ready to explore the potential of their voice and artistry in a supportive environment, the “Quincetitute” will present a variety of topics including contemporary vocal ensemble repertoire, vocal pedagogy, improvisation, composition, career development, and music technology.
2023 Guest Artists: The phenomenal Gilda Lyons and Aida Shirazi will give lectures, workshops, and coachings for all participants.
Singers will be placed in groups to develop a performance of a contemporary vocal ensemble piece and will also develop improvised performances to present at a public concert.
Festival Cultural de Mayo in Guadalajara
Quince Ensemble premieres music by Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon at the Festival Cultural de Mayo in Guadalajara, Mexico. The Festival Cultural de Mayo is an international festival that brings arts from around the world and across a variety of disciplines to the people of Guadalajara. Quince will premiere Destierros (“uprootments”), written for the vocal quartet Quince, and staged by La Coperacha, a puppet and theater company in Guadalajara.
